Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung's approval rose back to its previous high of 67 percent partly on the back of positive views on his livelihood-related policies, a poll showed Friday.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the survey by Gallup Korea, conducted Tuesday through Thursday on 1,001 respondents aged 18 and over, showed that the positive assessment of Lee's overall performance rose 2 percentage points from the previous week, tying the highest level from a poll released two weeks earlier. The negative assessment fell 2 percentage points to 22 percent, while 11 percent were undecided.
Lee's handling of the economy and people's livelihoods were cited most frequently as the reason for positive evaluation at 18 percent, followed by overall performance at 12 percent, competence at 10 percent, and communication and diplomacy each at 7 percent. Among the negative responses, 20 percent pointed to concerns over the economy and the high exchange rate, followed by excessive welfare policies at 11 percent.
The approval rating for the ruling Democratic Party rose 2 percentage points to 48 percent, hitting a new high since the current administration took office. Support for the main opposition People Power Party fell 1 percentage point to 18 percent, marking its lowest level over the same period. The survey had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points at a 95 percent confidence level.
