Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung will visit France next week to attend a summit-level event on cinema and hold bilateral talks with French President Emmanuel Macron, a presidential official said Friday. The trip, scheduled from Sunday to Wednesday, is at the invitation of Macron following his visit to South Korea in April, marking the 140th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee will first travel to Saint-Paul-de-Vence to attend the Lumiere Summit on the future of cinema before making a two-day state visit to Paris. During his visit, Lee will co-chair the Lumiere Summit with Macron, engage in a one-on-one luncheon, and participate in a summit and dinner banquet hosted by Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, at the Elysee Palace.

In Paris, Lee is also set to attend a business roundtable involving 20 companies from both countries. Additional meetings are scheduled with Yael Braun-Pivet, speaker of the lower house of the French parliament, and Mathias Cormann, secretary-general of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

Wi Sung-lac, National Security Adviser, stated that Lee's trip is anticipated to foster tangible cooperation in areas such as security, the economy, science and technology, and cultural exchanges. The visit aims to strengthen the "global strategic partnership" between South Korea and France and expand collaborations in artificial intelligence, space, nuclear energy, and biology.
