Lee to Meet OpenAI CEO Sam Altman for AI Partnership Talks

Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung is set to meet OpenAI CEO Sam Altman on Wednesday to discuss South Korea's artificial intelligence (AI) transformation strategy and partnership, the presidential office said. Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong and SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won will also attend the meeting at the presidential office later in the day.

According to Yonhap News Agency, during the meeting, Lee is expected to seek Altman's advice on the country's AI policy and ask for OpenAI's active partnership with Korean companies and investment. The government and OpenAI will pursue cooperation on Korea's AI transformation and the development of its AI ecosystem, as noted in a press notice from the presidential office.

Lee has pledged to increase support for the AI industry as part of his goal to make South Korea one of the world's top three AI powerhouses. During his visit to New York last week, Lee met BlackRock CEO Larry Fink to discuss cooperation in AI and renewable energy, which led to the signing of an agreement to build AI data centers under Seoul's vision of becoming Asia's AI hub.
