Lee Pledges Stronger Support for U.N. Peace Efforts in Meeting with Secretary-General

Alberta: President Lee Jae Myung met with U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in Canada Tuesday and pledged to expand support for the international organization's global peace initiatives, the presidential office said. The two held a brief meeting on the sidelines of the Group of Seven summit in Alberta, which has been overshadowed by ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine.

According to Yonhap News Agency, during the conversation, Lee emphasized the importance of international solidarity led by the U.N. in the face of complex global crises. He affirmed that the Seoul government will provide necessary support for the U.N.'s efforts to promote global peace and prosperity.

Guterres took note of South Korea's contributions to global peace, security, human rights, sustainable development, and climate change efforts. He expressed hope that the country would continue to play a role in addressing global challenges through multilateral cooperation, it noted.
