Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung has mandated immediate inspections of all government network systems following a disruptive fire at the National Information Resources Service in Daejeon. The directive aims to identify potential issues and ensure the proper functioning of critical infrastructure.

According to Yonhap News Agency, this decision was made during a Cabinet meeting, as public services faced continued disruptions due to the fire, which occurred approximately 140 kilometers south of Seoul. President Lee emphasized the importance of inspecting facilities and systems, particularly those related to security and public safety. Ministries have been tasked with identifying problems and solutions, with reports due by next week for review in the forthcoming Cabinet meeting.

In response to the fire, President Lee urged the swift restoration of affected systems and the implementation of measures to prevent cyber crimes such as hacking and phishing, which could exploit vulnerabilities resulting from the outage. The President also highlighted the need for thorough preparations for the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in Gyeongju, scheduled for October 31 and November 1.

The APEC summit is anticipated to be a significant diplomatic event, with the expected attendance of U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. Bilateral meetings between President Lee and the two leaders are anticipated, marking potentially significant diplomatic engagements.

In light of the approaching Chuseok holiday, set to begin Friday, President Lee called for efforts to stabilize agricultural product prices, which have recently increased. He stressed the importance of addressing inflation and establishing a stable supply chain to mitigate structural issues affecting the agricultural sector.
