Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung on Thursday urged police to review all reported stalking cases and swiftly implement measures to protect victims amid criticism over the police's failure to prevent a recent fatal incident. Lee made the call as he criticized the police's "lax handling" of a recent stalking case, in which a man in his 40s stabbed to death a woman he had previously dated, even though the victim had been under police protection and had reported threats shortly before the crime last week.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee emphasized the urgent need for police to conduct a comprehensive review of all reported stalking cases and take immediate victim protection measures. During a meeting with senior aides, Lee described stalking crimes as a major social issue and urged authorities to fully utilize existing systems to strengthen victim protection while continuing efforts to enhance these systems.

"It is the government's responsibility to make full use of existing systems to protect people, rather than simply blaming shortcomings in the system," Lee stated. "We must also improve those systems to prevent a recurrence of such tragedies."

In addition to addressing the stalking incident, Lee instructed authorities to prepare for an expected increase in foreign visitors ahead of K-pop group BTS' comeback concert scheduled for Saturday in downtown Seoul. He noted the temporary surge in foreign tourists had made the arrival terminals at Incheon International Airport extremely crowded and called for active measures to reduce confusion and inconvenience.

Lee also urged immigration authorities to deploy additional personnel and equipment to ensure smooth entry procedures for incoming travelers, highlighting the importance of managing the influx efficiently.
