Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung has nominated seasoned bureaucrat Koo Yun-cheol as the new finance minister, amidst a significant reshuffle involving six Cabinet positions, the presidential office announced on Sunday. Koo, who previously held the role of vice finance minister, has an extensive history of service in various roles within the ministry.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the nomination of Koo Yun-cheol is part of a broader Cabinet reorganization that includes the appointment of five-term lawmaker Rep. Jeong Seong-ho as the justice minister, and fellow five-term lawmaker Rep. Yun Ho-jung as the new interior minister. These changes reflect President Lee's strategic efforts to bolster his administration with experienced leaders from both bureaucratic and legislative backgrounds.
Additionally, Doosan Enerbility President Kim Jung-kwan has been chosen as the new industry minister. Lee Jin-sook, the former president of Chungnam National University, has been tapped as the education minister, while former Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency Commissioner Jeong Eun-kyeong will serve as the health minister. These appointments highlight President Lee's focus on leveraging industry expertise and academic leadership in key ministerial roles.
In further developments, former prosecutor Bong Wook has been appointed as the senior presidential secretary for civil affairs.
