Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung met with Swedish Crown Princess Victoria on Wednesday to discuss ways to deepen bilateral ties, the presidential office said.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee met Victoria, the eldest child of King Carl XVI Gustaf and heir apparent to the throne, during her first official visit to South Korea in 10 years. She was accompanied by her husband, Prince Daniel, and an economic delegation.

Lee expressed his desire to expand the friendly relations between the two nations into various areas, including advanced technologies and renewable energy, presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung noted in a written briefing. He also acknowledged Sweden's contributions to peace on the Korean Peninsula and conveyed his hope that the two countries will continue collaborating to promote peace and stability in the region.

During their discussions, Lee shared his personal fondness for Sweden, citing the pop group ABBA and the 2024 Nobel Prize in literature awarded by the Swedish Academy to South Korean novelist Han Kang. Victoria expressed her hope that her visit would contribute to further developing bilateral relations, according to Kang.

Victoria's three-day visit includes a scheduled trip to the truce village of Panmunjom, participation in the Korea-Sweden Sustainable Partnership Summit, and a visit to a Korean War memorial in the southeastern city of Busan.
