Seoul: South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and French President Emmanuel Macron are poised to engage in summit talks in Paris, aiming to strengthen collaborations in security, economic affairs, and other strategic areas. This meeting marks a significant step in reinforcing their global strategic partnership, particularly as the two nations celebrate the 140th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.

According to Yonhap News Agency, President Lee commenced his two-day state visit to Paris after arriving from a previous engagement in Nice, France, where he and President Macron co-hosted a meeting focused on the future of the film industry. Upon his arrival in Paris, President Lee participated in a solemn ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at the Arc de Triomphe, accompanied by a French military band and officials, before heading to the Elysee Palace.

President Macron welcomed his South Korean counterpart with a warm embrace and handshake at the palace. The leaders are scheduled to participate in a private luncheon, followed by summit discussions expected to delve into their nations' global strategic partnership, which was initially established during President Macron's visit to South Korea in April. Discussions may also cover potential collaborations in the nuclear power plant industry and efforts to maintain freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

Following the summit, the leaders are anticipated to hold a joint press event to disclose the outcomes of their discussions. They will then attend a business roundtable featuring approximately 20 companies from both nations, aimed at fostering bilateral economic ties. The day's engagements will conclude with a dinner banquet hosted by President Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, at the presidential palace.
