Singapore: President Lee Jae Myung arrived in Singapore to commence his diplomatic tour of Southeast Asia, which also includes a visit to the Philippines. His mission focuses on enhancing cooperation with these critical Southeast Asian nations.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee's three-day state visit to Singapore includes summit talks with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong and a meeting with President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, the ceremonial head of state. This meeting marks the second summit between Lee and Wong in just four months, following their discussions during Wong's visit to South Korea for the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. During that summit, the two countries elevated their bilateral relations to a strategic partnership.

Lee and Wong are set to explore avenues for expanding trade, investment, and infrastructure collaboration, with a spotlight on promising sectors like artificial intelligence (AI) and nuclear energy, as stated by presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung. Additionally, Lee is scheduled to participate in AI Connect, a business forum featuring business leaders and entrepreneurs from both countries, focusing on the AI sector.

Following his Singapore visit, Lee will travel to Manila on Tuesday for a two-day state visit, where he will engage in a summit with Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. This marks their second summit, following their initial meeting on the sidelines of the APEC summit in late October. The discussions are anticipated to cover ways to enhance cooperation in the defense industry, infrastructure, and trade, along with emerging sectors such as nuclear power, shipbuilding, and AI, according to Kang.

Cheong Wa Dae has expressed optimism that Lee's trip will strengthen coordination with key members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) on the global stage, paving the way for deeper ties with the regional bloc. This visit marks Lee's second trip to Southeast Asia following his first in October, when he attended the ASEAN summit in Malaysia. During that trip, Lee unveiled Seoul's "CSP" vision, aimed at fostering growth and innovation among ASEAN youth and promoting peace and stability in the region.
