Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung instructed Prime Minister Kim Min-seok on Monday to take comprehensive actions to restore online public services that were disrupted by a recent fire and to establish measures to prevent such incidents in the future, the prime minister's office announced.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee issued this directive during a weekly meeting with Kim, following his public apology for the suspension of numerous public administration systems. This disruption was caused by a fire at the National Information Resources Service in Daejeon, located approximately 140 kilometers south of Seoul.

The prime minister's office stated in a press release, "President Lee instructed the prime minister to do his best to restore public services in order to minimize inconveniences to the people, and to carry out overall inspections and draw up fundamental measures to prevent a recurrence of such defects."

In response to the incident, the government has prioritized recovery efforts through the relevant ministries. Additionally, a taskforce led by the National AI Strategy Committee has been formed to conduct thorough inspections of information and communications infrastructure. The taskforce will also devise both short- and long-term strategies to improve the management of artificial intelligence infrastructure.

President Lee also highlighted the significance of the upcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit, scheduled to take place in the southeastern city of Gyeongju on October 31. He urged the prime minister to prepare diligently, ensuring that the capabilities of all ministries are fully utilized in the lead-up to this important event.
