Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung departed Sunday for a four-day visit to France that will include a summit meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron on ways to enhance cooperation in security, the economy, and other areas.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the trip follows Macron's visit to South Korea in April and coincides with the 140th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Lee's itinerary includes travel to Nice to attend the Lumiere Summit on the future of cinema in nearby Saint-Paul-de-Vence, followed by a two-day state visit to Paris starting Tuesday.

In Paris, President Lee will engage in a one-on-one luncheon with President Macron. This will be followed by a summit and a dinner banquet hosted by Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, at the Elysee Palace. Additionally, Lee will participate in a business roundtable featuring 20 companies from both nations, further strengthening economic ties.

The visit is anticipated to solidify the "global strategic partnership" developed during Macron's April visit to South Korea. This partnership aims to bolster bilateral cooperation in critical sectors, including security, economy, and cultural exchanges, as highlighted by National Security Adviser Wi Sung-lac.

The forthcoming summit between Lee and Macron may also address collaboration in nuclear power plant projects and discuss troop deployment to the Strait of Hormuz, according to a presidential official.
