Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung on Monday called for a comprehensive set of policy measures to support the culture industry through fiscal policy, tax incentives, and regulatory reforms tailored to different types of content and creators. At a meeting with senior aides, Lee highlighted the global popularity of Korean culture spanning K-pop, dramas, films, cosmetics, and food, while noting South Korea's vibrant democracy has also drawn international attention.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee emphasized the elevated status and appeal of South Korea, referring to it as the Republic of Korea, due to the widespread popularity of K-culture. He remarked that the nation is on the brink of becoming a cultural powerhouse. Lee instructed his aides to develop comprehensive measures to support the cultural and creative sectors and explore ways to create synergy among related industries.
Lee underscored the urgency of accelerating innovations in financial policy, taxation, and regulations. He also stressed the importance of enhancing social safety nets for artists and content creators, whom he described as the "backbone" of the industry.
