Lee Appoints Former Supreme Court Justice as Chair of Economic, Social, Labor Council

Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung has appointed former Supreme Court Justice Kim Ji-hyung as chair of the Economic, Social and Labor Council, the presidential office said Monday. Kim, an expert in labor law, was chosen to lead the tripartite presidential advisory body in recognition of his dedication to protecting socially underprivileged people, presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung told reporters.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim previously served on a special investigation committee probing the death of a young temporary worker at a thermal power plant and cases of leukemia linked to Samsung Electronics' semiconductor factories. His extensive experience in labor-related issues and his commitment to social justice were key factors in his appointment to the council. The Economic, Social and Labor Council serves as a crucial platform for dialogue among government, business, and labor representatives, aimed at addressing complex socio-economic challenges. Kim's leadership is expected to bring a fresh perspective and reinforce the council's efforts in promoting equitable labor practices and policies.
