Lee and Mattarella Agree to Elevate South Korea-Italy Ties into Special Strategic Partnership

Rome: South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and Italian President Sergio Mattarella have reached a significant agreement to elevate the diplomatic relationship between their countries to a special strategic partnership. This decision was made during summit talks at the Quirinal Palace in Rome, marking the second stop on President Lee's inaugural visit to Europe since assuming office a year ago.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the agreement aims to enhance collaboration in key strategic sectors such as semiconductors and artificial intelligence (AI). Both leaders expressed their commitment to further developing bilateral ties, with President Lee highlighting the potential for growth in various industries. A South Korea-Italy business roundtable is set to take place, involving approximately 30 companies from both nations, to explore new opportunities for cooperation.

President Lee emphasized the importance of expanding partnerships in semiconductors, AI, defense manufacturing, aerospace, energy, and biotechnology. The agreement reflects a mutual determination to strengthen cooperation in these areas, potentially leading to significant advancements and benefits for both countries.
