Brussels: South Korean President Lee Jae Myung and Belgian Prime Minister Bart De Wever have reached an agreement to enhance investment in the battery, materials, and energy sectors within their respective nations. The leaders convened on Wednesday to deliberate on advancing mutual investments by their companies, aiming to establish their countries as strategic bases for business expansion in their regions.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the South Korean presidential official highlighted the intention to foster cooperation in strategic industries by encouraging investment between South Korean and Belgian companies. Cheong Wa Dae spokesperson Kang Yu-jung stated that both nations aim to promote future collaboration in the battery, materials, and energy sectors, following the Lee-De Wever summit held in Brussels.
President Lee is currently on a European tour that commenced with a two-day visit to Belgium. His itinerary includes subsequent visits to Italy and France, where he will participate in the Group of Seven (G7) summit. During the visit, South Korea and Belgium signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at strengthening collaboration in the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and startups.
In line with the MOU, Lee and De Wever have pledged to foster communication and cooperation between their countries' small businesses. They aim to establish their nations as supportive environments for each other's SMEs seeking international expansion, thereby pursuing shared prosperity. The summit coincides with the 125th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Seoul and Brussels.
