Lee Affirms South Korea’s Commitment to ‘One-China’ Policy Ahead of China Visit

Beijing: President Lee Jae Myung stated that South Korea will continue to uphold its stance of respecting the "one-China" policy concerning Taiwan-related matters. This announcement comes as Lee prepares for a state visit to China, where he is scheduled to hold discussions with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Lee emphasized in an interview with China's CCTV that the foreign policy principles established between South Korea and China in 1992 remain effective and guide their bilateral relations. He reiterated that respecting the 'one-China' principle and maintaining peace and stability in Northeast Asia, including the Taiwan Strait, are significant.

Lee is set to embark on a four-day visit to China starting Sunday. This visit takes place during a period of increased tension around the Taiwan Strait, following Beijing's recent extensive military exercises near the self-governed island.
