Seoul: President Lee Jae Myung has accepted the resignation of Justice Minister Jung Sung-ho, as announced by a presidential spokesperson on Monday, a week after Jung offered to step down.

According to Yonhap News Agency, presidential spokesperson Kang Yu-jung revealed that President Lee accepted the resignation due to Jung's difficulty in continuing his duties because of deteriorating health. The government is now focused on appointing Jung's successor promptly to ensure there is no disruption in state administration.

Jung Sung-ho submitted his resignation last week, attributing his decision to the completion of the legislation of a prosecution reform bill, alongside his health issues. The recently passed legislation transfers investigative authority entirely to the police, effectively removing such powers from prosecutors.

Jung's resignation leaves two ministerial positions vacant. The other vacancy is the post of minister for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), previously held by Prime Minister Han Seong-sook.
