Seoul: The national football governing body announced that it will hire a temporary head coach for the men's national team through an open recruitment process. This decision was made during a board of directors meeting held by the Korea Football Association (KFA) in Seoul. The head coach role has been vacant since Hong Myung-bo resigned in late June following South Korea's group-stage exit from the FIFA World Cup.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the KFA stated that the interim manager will oversee the team for the upcoming FIFA international match windows, spanning from September 21 to October 6, and then from November 9 to 17. During these periods, teams are allowed to play a maximum of four matches in the first window and two additional matches in the second.

The KFA also plans to recruit an entire coaching staff through the open process, allowing the selected head coach to choose their own assistants. The recruitment is open to qualified individuals from South Korea and abroad, with detailed application requirements to be announced later.

In the same board meeting, the KFA approved the formation of an election committee to manage the upcoming presidential election. The top position in the KFA has been unoccupied since Chung Mong-gyu resigned on July 6, after the World Cup elimination. As per KFA rules, an election committee must be appointed within 20 days of a president's resignation.

The Korean Sport and Olympic Committee (KSOC) has recently amended election rules for its member associations, including the KFA, extending the election period from 60 days to up to six months. This change aims to provide ample time for a transparent election process.

Historically, KFA presidents have been elected by an electoral college consisting of regional football association heads, K League club CEOs, players, coaches, and referees. In the previous election, 183 out of 192 eligible members cast their votes. The newly established K-Football Innovation Committee, led by KSOC President Ryu Seung-min and former national team captain Park Ji-sung, proposes enlarging the electoral college to include thousands of voters to ensure a fairer election process.
