Pyongyang: North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has expressed openness to engaging in dialogue with the United States, contingent upon the U.S. abandoning its demand for North Korea's denuclearization. Kim emphasized this stance while recalling his 'good memory' of interactions with U.S. President Donald Trump.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim articulated these views during a significant parliamentary meeting held over the weekend. This statement follows President Trump's recent expression of hope for a meeting with Kim this year, as discussed at a summit with South Korean President Lee Jae Myung last month.
Kim unequivocally stated that North Korea would not relinquish its nuclear arsenal. However, he suggested that discussions could proceed if the U.S. sought peaceful coexistence without insisting on denuclearization. "If the U.S. drops its hollow obsession with denuclearization and wants to pursue peaceful coexistence with North Korea based on the recognition of reality, there is no reason for us not to sit down with the U.S.," Kim remarked, highlighting his willingness for dialogue under revised terms.
