Tokyo: The reigning World Series champions Los Angeles Dodgers will be well represented in Pool C at the World Baseball Classic (WBC) in Tokyo, with one South Korean player and two Japanese players in action. Kim Hye-seong, utility player for the Dodgers who will be South Korea's starting second baseman, said Wednesday he will try to put aside his friendships with Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto when the two countries square off on the weekend.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim expressed his anticipation for the match against Japan, stating, "It's going to be fun to see my teammates wearing a different uniform here at the same stadium," during a press meeting at Tokyo Dome. This comes on the eve of South Korea's first Pool C game against Czechia, with the much-anticipated game against Japan set for 7 p.m. Saturday.

Japan enters the tournament as the defending champion and is favored to win Pool C, while South Korea aims to finish in the top two to advance beyond the opening round for the first time since 2009. This tournament marks Kim's second appearance at the WBC. Reflecting on his debut, where he had limited opportunities with only two at-bats over three games, Kim noted his readiness to capitalize on more chances this time.

Kim, known for his versatility on the field, has played various positions, including shortstop, third base, and outfield, in addition to his main role at second base. He emphasized his readiness to contribute wherever needed, stating, "As a ball player, my job is to go play where I am asked to play. I've been practicing everywhere, regardless of the defensive position."
