Porthcawl: Kim A-lim is one stroke off the lead heading into the final round of the last LPGA major tournament of the season. The South Korean golfer achieved a five-under 67 in the third round of the AIG Women's Open at Royal Porthcawl Golf Club in Wales, bringing her total to eight-under for the tournament. According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim's bogey-free performance placed her in second place, just one shot behind Japan's Miyu Yamashita. At the start of the third round, Yamashita was leading at 11-under after impressive rounds of 68 and 65, with only two bogeys. However, Kim closed the gap by scoring five birdies, while Yamashita recorded only two birdies alongside four bogeys. Kim showcased her prowess by sinking a 23-foot birdie putt on the first hole and another long-distance birdie on the fifth. She came close to an eagle at the par-5 13th, marking her fifth birdie. Despite a rough start on the par-3 15th, she managed to save par. Having won the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions in Feb ruary, Kim aims to become the first multiple winner of the LPGA season, which has seen 19 different champions in 2025-the longest streak in tour history. Kim, who claimed the 2020 U.S. Women's Open as a nonmember, is vying for her second major title and her fourth LPGA victory overall. The last South Korean to win an LPGA major was Amy Yang, who took the KPMG Women's PGA Championship in June 2024, marking the first major win for the country in two years. Kim, despite missing six out of 14 fairways, hit 16 greens in regulation and focused on low shots in the windy conditions. "I honestly don't remember how I played this round," Kim said with a smile. "I just gave my best on each and every hole." She emphasized her focus on trajectory control, noting the importance of ball flight and control in the windy conditions of the tournament. Even as she challenges Yamashita and nears her second major title, Kim remains focused on her own game. "Honestly, I'm not focused on the leader," the 29-year-old said. "I focus on my process and my shot and then my position. That's all." Kim has earned $698,788 this season, and a victory in Wales would secure her $1,462,500, propelling her into the top 10 on the money list. No other South Korean player is in the top 10 heading into the final round, with Jenny Shin tied for 11th at three-under.
