Gwangju:The Kia Tigers secured a 5-1 victory against the LG Twins in the opening game of their South Korean baseball postseason series, thanks to a powerful performance by slugger Kim Do-yeong and solid pitching from starter James Naile.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim Do-yeong was instrumental in the Tigers' win, hitting two home runs and driving in four runs. His pivotal solo home run in the bottom of the fourth inning gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead, and he later added to the score with a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning. Kim capped off his impressive performance with a two-run homer in the eighth inning at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field.
James Naile delivered a strong performance on the mound, limiting the Twins to one run on four hits over seven innings in front of a sellout crowd of 18,000. Despite allowing an early solo home run by Song Chan-eui in the second inning, Naile maintained his composure and held the Twins scoreless for the remainder of his outing.
The Tigers responded quickly to the Twins' initial lead, with Harold Castro hitting a solo home run in the bottom of the second inning. The Twins had several opportunities but failed to capitalize on errors by the Tigers' defense and their own scoring chances.
Game 2 of the series is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at the same Gwangju stadium. Historically, teams winning the first game in this best-of-five series have advanced nine out of ten times, placing the Tigers in a favorable position.
