Belgrade: The state-run Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power (KHNP) announced Wednesday that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Serbian government to expand cooperation in the nuclear energy and hydrogen sectors.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the MOU involves collaboration between KHNP and Serbia's Ministry of Mining and Energy to establish a foundation for the European nation's nuclear energy industry and develop a skilled workforce. Additionally, the agreement includes joint efforts for a green hydrogen project.

The signing took place during the Korea-Serbia Strategic Energy Development Forum held in Belgrade on Tuesday, as reported by KHNP officials. This development aligns with Serbia's ongoing efforts to diversify its energy mix, which is currently reliant on coal, by incorporating renewable energy sources such as nuclear, hydrogen, and wind to reduce carbon emissions.

KHNP President Whang Joo-ho stated in a press release, "Through this cooperation, we will continue to advance our energy partnership with the Serbian government ... and create broad opportunities for future collaboration with Serbia in the field of clean energy."
