Atlanta: The Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO) announced on Thursday its participation in a nuclear energy conference in the United States, aiming to expand its presence in the American nuclear energy market through collaboration with local companies.
According to Yonhap News Agency, KEPCO attended the 2025 Nuclear Energy Conference and Expo (NECX) in Atlanta last week. During the conference, KEPCO expressed its intention to enter the U.S. nuclear energy sector and discussed potential partnerships with major American firms, such as The Nuclear Company, focusing on opportunities in the power plant business.
NECX organizers informed KEPCO that it is considered a trusted partner by the U.S. government, which is working toward the goal of increasing the country's nuclear power capacity to 400 gigawatts by 2050. Following the conference, KEPCO conducted a joint workshop with Westinghouse Co., where they exchanged technological expertise and explored ways to enhance bilateral cooperation for global nuclear energy projects.
In a related development last month, Seoul and Washington agreed to strengthen cooperation in the nuclear energy sector during the Korea-U.S. business roundtable in Washington. This agreement occurred on the sidelines of the first summit between President Lee Jae Myung and U.S. President Donald Trump.
