KBO Postseason Set to Kick Off on October 5

Seoul: The postseason for South Korean baseball is slated to commence on the first Sunday of October. The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) has released the schedule for the 2025 postseason, detailing the exciting series that will unfold starting October 5.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the regular season is scheduled to conclude on Friday, with the postseason beginning two days later. The initial wild card series will feature a showdown between the No. 4 seed and the No. 5 seed. The higher-ranked team will have the advantage, advancing to the next phase with a win or a tie, and will have two opportunities to secure their position. Conversely, the lower-ranked team is required to win two consecutive games to progress. The higher-seeded club will enjoy home field advantage in the first game next Sunday and will also host a second game, if necessary, on the following day.

The No. 3 seed from the regular season will receive a bye to the best-of-five first round, where they will await the winner of the wild card series. The victor of this series will advance to face the No. 2 seed in the best-of-five second round. The regular-season champion will receive a bye directly to the Korean Series, where they will compete against the winner of the second round.

The first round is scheduled to commence on October 8, with travel days following Games 2 and 4, provided there are no rainouts. The second round is set to start on October 16, also including travel days after the second and fourth games. The Korean Series, a best-of-seven matchup, is slated to begin on October 24, with off days scheduled after Game 2 and Game 5. The top seed will host the first two games and the final two games, should the series extend to the maximum.

As of the latest games, the LG Twins are leading the standings with an 85-53-3 record, maintaining a 3 1/2 game lead over the Hanwha Eagles, who have an additional game in hand. During the postseason, ties will be declared after 15 innings, compared to 11 innings during the regular season. In the event of a tie, teams will compete again the following day without a break. Each team will have two challenges for video replays, with one additional opportunity granted in extra innings.
