KBO-Leading Twins Aim to Extend Lead in Standings

Seoul: Having opened up a three-game lead atop the South Korean baseball standings, the LG Twins are set to try to pull further away from the pack this week. The Twins will ride a three-game winning streak into the new week. At 45-26-0 (wins-losses-ties), they hold a three-game lead over the KT Wiz (41-28-1), while the Samsung Lions are 3 1/2 games behind at 40-28-2.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Twins will host the Lions for three games starting Tuesday at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul. The Lions hold the season series edge so far at 3-2-0. The Twins have a sub-.500 record against both the Lions and the Wiz but have excelled against most of the other teams in the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO).

From Friday to Sunday, the Twins will visit Busan for a road series against the Lotte Giants, currently the hottest team in the league. The Giants have risen from last place to eighth place at 29-39-2, winning five out of six games and tying one last week. The Giants' six-man rotation, allowing extra rest for starters, could prove beneficial as summer progresses.

The Giants will have a six-game homestand this week, with the NC Dinos (32-36-1) visiting Busan from Tuesday to Thursday. The Dinos have dominated the Giants this year, holding a 7-2-0 record in their season series.

Elsewhere in the league, the Wiz and the Lions will face off in Daegu over the weekend. The Hanwha Eagles (33-35-2), struggling with only two wins in their past ten games, will play against the fifth-ranked Doosan Bears (34-36-2) and then ninth-ranked SSG Landers (29-40-2).

The Kia Tigers (38-33-1), in fourth place with a 3 1/2-game lead over the Bears, will spend the entire week in Seoul. They will first face the last-place Kiwoom Heroes (26-46-1) at Gocheok Sky Dome before visiting the Bears at Jamsil Baseball Stadium.
