KBO Achieves Historic Milestone with 2 Million Fans in Record Time

Seoul: The South Korean baseball league reached a historic milestone by surpassing 2 million fans in the fewest games ever recorded in its history on Saturday. The Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) announced that their attendance for the 2026 season reached 2,094,481 through just 117 games. This achievement was propelled by a combined attendance of 99,905 fans across five games held on Saturday.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the previous record for reaching 2 million fans was set in 2025 when it took 118 games. The KBO set a single-season attendance record of over 12.3 million fans that same year. This season, the league surpassed 1 million fans on April 10, achieving this milestone after just 55 games, which was a new record by five games.

The KBO is currently averaging 17,902 fans per game this year, up from 16,596 fans at the same point last season. With four more sellouts recorded on Saturday, 65 out of 117 games have been played to packed stadiums. The sold-out games included the LG Twins against the Doosan Bears with 23,750 fans at Jamsil Baseball Stadium in Seoul, the Kiwoom Heroes hosting the Samsung Lions at Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul with 16,000 fans, the Lotte Giants visiting the Kia Tigers before 20,500 fans at Gwangju-Kia Champions Field in Gwangju, and the Hanwha Eagles hosting the NC Dinos with 17,000 fans at Daejeon Hanwha Life Ballpark in Daejeon.

The Hanwha Eagles have successfully sold out all 13 of their home games so far this season, but despite the strong attendance, they have managed to win only three of those 13 games.
