Cortina d'ampezzo: Jung Seung-gi finished 10th in the men's skeleton competition at the Milan-Cortina Winter Games on Friday, falling short of his first Olympic medal. Jung had a combined time of 3:45.90 after four runs at the Cortina Sliding Centre, located 260 kilometers northeast of Milan.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Jung was tied for eighth with two other competitors after the first two runs on Thursday, clocking a time of 1:53.22. In the third run, he recorded a time of 56.19 seconds, securing eighth place. However, in the fourth and final run, Jung finished in 56.49 seconds, ultimately placing 10th for the second consecutive Winter Olympics.
Despite overcoming a career-threatening back injury, Jung entered the competition as a potential medal contender, having claimed a bronze medal and three other top-five finishes in six World Cup events this season.
The gold medal went to Matt Weston from Britain, who set a track record with a time of 3:43.33. Weston made history by setting a track record in each of his four runs, starting with 56.21 seconds in the first and concluding with 55.61 seconds in the final race. Axel Jungk of Germany secured his second consecutive silver medal with a time of 3:44.21, while Christopher Grotheer, the 2022 champion also from Germany, took home the bronze with a time of 3:44.40.
Kim Ji-soo, the only other South Korean competitor, finished in 16th place with a time of 3:48.11.
