Seoul: South Korean broadcaster JTBC said Wednesday it will broadcast all rounds of the ongoing FIFA World Cup without disruption, dismissing a media report on such a possibility amid a liquidity crisis.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the broadcaster assured viewers in a statement that they would provide comprehensive coverage of the World Cup, including matches involving the South Korean national team through the final stages of the tournament. JTBC urged viewers not to be swayed by "inaccurate information" regarding potential disruptions.

The statement was issued in response to a report by Japanese media outlet JNN, which suggested that there might be interruptions in JTBC's World Cup broadcasts due to unpaid broadcasting fees to FIFA. However, JTBC has secured exclusive broadcasting rights in South Korea for major sporting events, including the Olympics from 2026-2032 and the World Cup from 2026-2030. Earlier this year, JTBC reached an agreement with public broadcaster KBS to jointly broadcast the ongoing World Cup.

Despite recent financial challenges, including filing for court-led rehabilitation proceedings along with four other affiliates of JoongAng Group, JTBC remains committed to fulfilling its broadcasting obligations. The financial difficulties facing JoongAng Group have not deterred JTBC from ensuring that its viewers continue to enjoy uninterrupted World Cup coverage.
