Gyeongju: A conservative journalist has suggested that Chinese President Xi Jinping might visit South Korea to participate in the forthcoming Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit. This speculation arises from a recent conversation that President Lee Jae Myung had with the journalist.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Jeong Kyu-jae, who previously served as the editor-in-chief of the Korean Economic Daily, shared insights from his luncheon meeting with President Lee. This information was disclosed in a video on Jeong's YouTube channel.
The APEC summit, which South Korea is set to host this year, will take place in Gyeongju. The city is located approximately 370 kilometers southeast of Seoul, and the summit will occur between late October and early November.
In a related development, Jeong reported that President Lee has not yet decided whether he will attend China's military parade in September. This parade commemorates the 80th anniversary of China's victory in World War II. Sources have indicated that China has approached South Korea regarding Lee's potential attendance, echoing a similar situation in 2015 when former President Park Geun-hye attended the event despite opposition from Washington.
