Yeonpyeong island: Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) Chairman Gen. Jin Yong-sung visited a Marine unit on an inter-Korean border island to check military readiness and encourage service members, his office said.
According to Yonhap News Agency, during his visit to the base on Yeonpyeong Island in the Yellow Sea, the chairman received briefings on the situation in nearby waters and the military's preparedness measures against different types of provocations, including the command and control system, and the operation of surveillance and strike assets.
Jin emphasized the importance of maintaining strong vigilance to deter enemies' intention to provoke and achieving victory in case of any provocations. He also expressed gratitude for troops stationed in front-line waters over the Chuseok holiday, it added.
