Seoul: Industry Minister nominee Kim Jung-kwan emphasized his commitment to prioritizing South Korea's national interests during tariff negotiations with the United States and to bolstering Korean exports in the face of global trade uncertainties.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Kim expressed his desire to lead South Korea's export efforts and assist the nation in transforming current challenges into opportunities. He shared these sentiments while preparing for his parliamentary confirmation hearing, indicating his proactive approach to addressing trade concerns.

Regarding the impending trade discussions with the U.S. under the Trump administration, Kim stated his intent to collaborate closely with Trade Minister Yeo Han-koo to establish a tariff agreement that aligns with South Korea's national interests. He emphasized the importance of ensuring a coordinated approach among the industry, trade, and energy sectors, especially in the era of artificial intelligence.

During his campaign, Lee pledged to integrate energy policy responsibilities from the industry ministry with environmental policy duties from the environment ministry to better address climate change challenges.
