Busan: Two Indonesian crew members of a fishing boat went missing Thursday after the vessel capsized in waters off the southeastern port city of Busan, maritime authorities announced. The incident has prompted an extensive search and rescue operation in the area.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the 79-ton fishing boat collided with a 992-ton liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carrier at 10:10 a.m., leading to the capsizing of the smaller vessel. The collision resulted in all eight crew members being thrown into the sea, comprising two South Koreans and six Indonesians.
The LPG carrier was able to rescue six crew members from the waters. However, two Indonesian nationals, both in their 30s, are still unaccounted for, heightening concerns about their safety. The Ulsan Coast Guard has since deployed patrol vessels, helicopters, and other resources to aid in the search for the missing individuals.
Among those rescued, one person is reported to be in critical condition, underscoring the severity of the incident. The authorities continue their efforts to locate the missing crew members, while the cause of the collision remains under investigation by maritime officials.
