Seoul: Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's largest automobile manufacturer, announced an impressive 8.3 percent increase in sales for September compared to the same month last year. This growth is primarily attributed to the heightened demand for their high-end and sport utility vehicle (SUV) models.
According to Yonhap News Agency, Hyundai Motor reported sales of 372,298 vehicles in September, a rise from the 336,140 units sold in the corresponding period of the previous year. Notably, domestic sales soared by 18.3 percent, reaching 66,001 units from 55,805, while international sales also experienced a 6.4 percent boost, climbing to 306,297 units from the previous year's 287,872.
In the domestic market, the Avante sedan emerged as the top-selling model with 7,657 units sold. It was closely followed by the Santa Fe SUV and the Grandeur sedan, which recorded sales figures of 5,763 and 5,398 units, respectively.
For the period from January to September, Hyundai's total sales increased by 1.1 percent, reaching 3,110,909 vehicles, compared to 3,075,720 units sold during the same timeframe last year. A Hyundai Motor official remarked, "Strong sales of our flagship models have continued to drive on-year global sales growth," and expressed optimism about the future, stating, "We will steadily expand our market share by launching new vehicles with outstanding product appeal."
