Hyundai Unveils First Ioniq Model for the Chinese Market

Hyundai Motor Co., South Korea's leading automaker, has unveiled its first production model under its all-electric Ioniq brand, specifically designed for the Chinese market, at the 2026 Beijing auto show.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the Ioniq V is built on a platform developed in partnership with Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC Group), utilizing a battery system created alongside Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (CATL). This unveiling precedes the planned electric vehicle (EV) launch later this year.

The Ioniq V boasts a travel range of over 600 kilometers on a single charge and is equipped with an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS). The vehicle, inspired by the Venus Concept, introduces Hyundai Motor's new design language, "The Origin," for its all-electric lineup in China.

Hyundai Motor plans to introduce 20 new models in China over the next five years, including an electrified sport utility vehicle (SUV) s et for release in the first half of 2027. The company aims to reach annual sales of 500,000 units in China, which is the world's largest automobile market.

Jose Munoz, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor, emphasized the importance of the Chinese market, citing its demanding EV consumers, rapid development cycles, extensive battery supply chain, and advanced innovation ecosystem. Hyundai intends to deepen its commitment to China by expanding partnerships with CATL and Momenta, which have contributed to the Ioniq V's battery system and ADAS technologies, respectively.
