Salalah: Hyundai Motor Group announced plans to introduce hydrogen fuel cell buses and develop electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in Oman, in collaboration with the Omani government and local companies.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the automotive group signed memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with Oman's transport ministry and local companies to work on sustainable mobility solutions. The signing ceremony was held at the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Complex in Salalah, Oman.

The agreements include the introduction of Oman's first hydrogen-powered city buses. Hyundai Motor has committed to establishing an ultra-fast EV charging infrastructure in the country as part of these efforts. The state-run transport company, Mwasalat, plans to set up an eco-friendly public transportation route in Muscat, the capital city, and will conduct a pilot passenger service utilizing Hyundai Motor's ELEC CITY hydrogen fuel cell buses.

Additionally, Oman Oil Marketing Co. (OOMCO) will manage 240-kilowatt ultra-fast EV chargers, which will be provided by Hyundai Kefico, at a gas station in Halban. Following a six-month trial, OOMCO will evaluate the possibility of expanding its EV charging network.

Hyundai Motor Group aims to leverage this cooperation to broaden its eco-friendly mobility business in Oman, extending beyond public transportation into commercial and passenger vehicle markets.
