Seoul: Hyundai Motor Co. has initiated an innovative campaign utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) to transform ecological data into narratives from the perspective of trees, aiming to enhance awareness around climate change and forest degradation.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the "Tree Correspondents" campaign employs a large language model (LLM) to convert real-time data from trees into human-like stories, highlighting the environmental challenges forests currently face. This initiative represents a blend of technology, storytelling, and sustainability, aligned with Hyundai's brand slogan "Progress for Humanity."
As part of the campaign, Hyundai installed data trackers on trees located in the Ioniq Forests in Brazil, the Czech Republic, and South Korea. These sensors gather real-time data on climate, soil, and other environmental factors. The gathered information is processed through the LLM's natural language processing capabilities, allowing trees to narrate their own stories about forest loss, biodiversity threats, and changes in ecosystems.
The initiative is part of Hyundai's broader Ioniq Forest initiative, a global tree-planting effort that started in 2016 alongside the launch of the Ioniq electric vehicle. As of this month, Hyundai has planted over 1 million trees in 13 countries, including the United States, India, South Korea, and China.
Jee Sung-won, senior vice president and global chief marketing officer at Hyundai Motor, stated, "This campaign goes beyond conventional environmental messaging by giving trees a literal voice. With 'Tree Correspondents,' we wanted to create a more personal and emotionally resonant way to engage audiences with the urgency of climate action."
