Trump Warns Iran of Intensified Bombing if Peace Deal Fails

Washington: U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday heightened pressure on Iran, warning that the U.S. would commence bombing at a "much higher level and intensity" if Tehran does not agree to a peace deal with the United States.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Trump's remarks were made in a social media post following an Axios report suggesting that the U.S. is nearing an agreement with Iran on a one-page memorandum of understanding. This potential deal aims to end the ongoing conflict and establish a framework for more comprehensive nuclear talks.

In his post on Truth Social, Trump stated, "If they don't agree, the bombing starts, and it will be, sadly, at a much higher level and intensity than it was before." The U.S. and Iran have been at an impasse over several contentious issues, including control over the Strait of Hormuz and Iran's nuclear ambitions.

Trump also mentioned, "Assuming Iran agrees to give what has been agreed to, which is, perhaps, a big assumption, the already legendary Epic Fury will be at an end, and the highly effective Blockade will allow the Hormuz Strait to be OPEN TO ALL, including Iran." This refers to the military campaign against Iran, known as Operation Epic Fury, which commenced in late February.

During a press conference on Tuesday, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced the conclusion of the military campaign, stating that the primary objectives had been achieved. Trump further noted that the U.S.' "Project Freedom" mission would be paused briefly, citing significant progress toward reaching a "complete and final" agreement with Iran.

The operation to guide commercial vessels out of the Strait of Hormuz began on Monday, amid the U.S.-Israeli conflict with Iran. Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Dan Caine reported earlier this week that approximately 22,500 mariners on over 1,550 commercial vessels remain trapped in the Persian Gulf due to Iran's regional attacks.
