Siheung: Hyundai Motor Group announced on Monday the initiation of a cutting-edge robot demonstration project at an apartment complex west of Seoul. This initiative is part of the company's broader strategy to develop a comprehensive smart parking management system.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Hyundai Motor Co., along with its auto parts affiliate Hyundai Wia Co. and Hyundai Engineering and Construction (EandC) Co., will collaborate to form a consortium for this project. The project is set to unfold at Hillstate The Wave City in Siheung, southwest of Seoul, as a segment of the government's smart city regulatory sandbox program.

The demonstration will feature two sets of Hyundai Wia's advanced parking robots, which will be installed on the first basement level of the parking garage within the 1,796-household apartment complex constructed by Hyundai EandC. This complex is anticipated to welcome residents starting next year.

These state-of-the-art robots, standing at just 110 millimeters in height, are engineered to maneuver under vehicles, elevate their wheels, and transport them to assigned parking spots. They are equipped with LiDAR sensors, which enable them to automatically park vehicles weighing up to 3.4 tons, including SUVs, at speeds reaching up to 1.2 meters per second.

Hyundai Motor Group stated that the initiative aims to tackle parking space shortages in residential areas and enhance safety through the integration of robotic technology.
