Hyundai Motor Begins Vehicle-to-Grid Pilot Service in Jeju

Jeju: Hyundai Motor Group announced the launch of a pilot service on Jeju Island, integrating its electric vehicles (EVs) with the local power grid. The initiative involves 40 selected customers using the Ioniq 9 and Kia's EV9 models.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the vehicle-to-grid (V2G) service offers these customers bidirectional charging systems at no cost. V2G technology enables EVs to draw electricity from the grid and supply it back, turning them into mobile battery units.

Hyundai Motor Group highlighted that the Jeju pilot program takes advantage of the island's renewable energy sources, primarily wind and solar power. The service allows EVs to store surplus electricity during the day and return it to the grid during nighttime.

Jeju's high rate of EV adoption positions the island as an essential testing ground for EV infrastructure and renewable energy solutions in South Korea.
