Hyundai and Kia’s U.S. Sales Rise by 2.7% in May Driven by Eco-Friendly Vehicles

Seoul: Hyundai Motor Group announced on Thursday that its U.S. sales in May saw a 2.7 percent increase compared to the same month last year, primarily due to the robust performance of its eco-friendly vehicle lineup. The group reported a total of 174,860 units sold across the United States last month. Hyundai Motor Co. experienced a 3.4 percent rise in sales, reaching 94,358 units, while Kia Corp. saw a 1.9 percent increase, with sales totaling 80,502 units.

According to Yonhap News Agency, this growth in sales was significantly influenced by the demand for eco-friendly cars, including all-electric and hybrid vehicles. Hyundai and Kia noted that the sales figures for May were the highest monthly numbers on record for the companies. Specifically, the combined sales of eco-friendly cars by the two companies reached 52,693 units during the month, marking a substantial 62.3 percent rise from the previous year.

Moreover, eco-friendly vehicles accounted for 30.1 percent of the total sales for Hyundai Motor Group in May, as reported by the companies. This indicates a growing trend and consumer interest in sustainable automotive options within the U.S. market.
