Seoul: Hyundai Motor Co. and Kia Corp. are gearing up to introduce a range of new and redesigned models this year, aiming to bolster their electric vehicle (EV) portfolios alongside their gasoline and hybrid offerings, industry watchers reported. According to Yonhap News Agency, Hyundai Motor plans to unveil several new models, including an electric version of its popular Staria multipurpose van. Additionally, Hyundai is working on redesigned versions of the Avante compact sedan and the Tucson sport utility vehicle (SUV). The Staria EV represents an expansion in Hyundai's electrification efforts, as the automaker seeks to diversify its electric offerings beyond sedans and SUVs. This new model will feature substantial battery performance and advanced connectivity options, appealing to both family and commercial users. The upcoming Avante, a long-standing brand for Hyundai, is set to receive a comprehensive redesign. Industry observers expect improvements in fuel efficiency and enhancements in advanced drive r assistance systems compared to its previous seventh-generation iteration. Similarly, the Tucson, another of Hyundai's best-selling models, is anticipated to undergo a complete design overhaul. Kia, on the other hand, is preparing to launch new lineups that maintain a balance between electric vehicles and internal combustion engine models. Spearheading Kia's EV initiatives this year is the EV2, a new subcompact SUV that will be positioned below last year's EV3. This model is expected to debut in the summer. Kia is also set to introduce new performance-oriented EV models, including the EV3 GT, EV4 GT, and EV5 GT, as it extends its GT sub-brand into the electric vehicle segment. Additionally, Kia plans to launch the second-generation Seltos subcompact SUV, available with both conventional and hybrid powertrains, while the Sportage SUV is expected to receive an updated version featuring enhanced efficiency and new interior technology.
