Hegseth Declares Victory in Iran Conflict, Warns on Uranium Handling

Washington: U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that the United States has secured a victory in its conflict with Iran. He asserted that Iran will either surrender its enriched uranium or the U.S. will take necessary actions to secure it.

According to Yonhap News Agency, Hegseth's statements were made during a Pentagon press briefing held alongside Gen. Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. This announcement followed U.S. President Donald Trump's agreement to a two-week ceasefire with Iran, contingent upon the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, a vital oil shipping channel.

Hegseth highlighted Operation Epic Fury, which began on February 28, as a significant military success. The operation aimed to dismantle Iran's missile capabilities, defense infrastructure, and armed forces, while preventing the development of nuclear weapons. He emphasized that Iran's military capabilities had been severely impacted.

Regarding Iran's enriched uranium, Hegseth stressed that the U.S. is closely monitoring the stockpiles. He indicated that Iran has been given the choice to hand over the uranium voluntarily, but the U.S. is prepared to act if necessary.

Hegseth also mentioned the potential for military action to ensure the uranium is secured, referencing past operations such as Midnight Hammer. He reiterated that the U.S. will not allow Iran to develop a nuclear weapon.

The Defense Secretary assured that U.S. forces will remain in place to ensure Iran's compliance with the ceasefire and to facilitate negotiations for a peace agreement. He emphasized the readiness of U.S. troops to respond swiftly if required to ensure the security of the Strait of Hormuz.
