Seoul: HD Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering Co. (KSOE) announced on Monday that it has secured a substantial contract valued at 1.4 trillion won (approximately US$924.6 million) to construct eight very large gas carriers (VLGCs). The agreement marks a significant achievement for the company, as it continues to strengthen its position in the global shipbuilding industry.

According to Yonhap News Agency, HD KSOE, a subsidiary of HD Hyundai Co., has finalized the deal with an undisclosed client based in Asia. The construction of these vessels will be executed by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., a key unit under HD KSOE. The ships are scheduled for delivery to the client by the first half of 2030.

With the acquisition of this order, HD KSOE has secured contracts worth a total of US$14.17 billion for 123 ships this year alone, reaching 60.8 percent of its annual order target. The company's comprehensive order backlog for the current year encompasses 28 container ships, 16 liquefied natural gas carriers, 36 liquefied petroleum and ammonia carriers, and 33 petrochemical product carriers.
