Seoul: HD Hyundai Heavy Industries Co., South Korea's prominent shipbuilder, announced it has secured a substantial order valued at 354.2 billion won (US$240 million) to construct two very large ammonia carriers (VLACs) for an African shipping company.
According to Yonhap News Agency, the delivery of these two VLACs is scheduled to be completed by July 2028. The identity of the African customer remains undisclosed as per the details shared in a regulatory filing by the company.
HD Hyundai Heavy operates alongside HD Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co. under the umbrella of HD Korea Shipbuilding and Offshore Engineering Co. (HD KSOE), a subsidiary of HD Hyundai Co. This order is a part of HD KSOE's successful year, having secured ship orders worth US$16.76 billion, which represents 92.9 percent of its annual goal of $18.05 billion. The ship orders for the year include 71 container ships out of a total of 117 vessels.
