Hanwha Qcells to Build Massive Renewable Energy Complex in U.S.

Seoul: the energy subsidiary of Hanwha Solutions, said Friday it will oversee the engineering and construction of one of the largest renewable energy projects in the United States. The South Korean company will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, and construction, or EPC, of 14 solar and energy storage projects in the "Atlas Energy Park," set to span across some 63.66 square kilometers of land in the southwestern state of Arizona, it added.

According to Yonhap News Agency, by 2028, the complex will have 2.8 gigawatts of solar power capacity and 5.7 gigawatts per hour capacity of energy storage systems. Hanwha Qcells will supply all solar modules to be used for the project, according to the company.

The project is seen as Hanwha Qcells' effort to transform the company into an integrated energy company capable of developing, building, and selling energy infrastructure, especially in the U.S. market. In May, the company sold off two solar farms with a combined capacity of 357 megawatts, it said.

As of this year, the total capacity of projects completed or underway in the North America region amounted to 11 gigawatts for solar energy and 6 gigawatts for energy storage systems, according to Hanwha.
