Seoul: Hanwha Ocean Co. announced on Friday that it has secured a significant order valued at 2.59 trillion won (US$1.75 billion) to supply seven liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers for a European shipowner. This order marks a substantial addition to the company's already impressive portfolio for the year.

According to Yonhap News Agency, with this latest contract, Hanwha Ocean has now secured orders for a total of 51 vessels, amounting to a combined value of $9.83 billion in 2023. This achievement surpasses last year's total annual order value of $8.98 billion. The orders secured this year include 20 very large crude carriers (VLCCs), 17 container ships, 13 LNG carriers, and one icebreaking research vessel.

Hanwha Ocean emphasized the significance of the contract as a testament to the strong confidence among European shipowners in the company's high-pressure LNG engine technology and its ability to reduce carbon emissions. This order underscores Hanwha Ocean's growing reputation and technological capabilities in the global shipping industry.
