Seoul: Hanwha Ocean Co. announced on Thursday that it has secured a substantial contract valued at 1.55 trillion won (approximately US$1.14 billion) from Taiwan's Yang Ming Marine Transport Corp. The agreement involves the construction of six liquefied natural gas (LNG) dual-fuel container ships.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the South Korean shipbuilder will construct the 13,650 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) vessels at its shipyard located in Geoje, in the southeastern region of the country. The delivery of these ships is scheduled by the second half of 2029, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing partnership between Hanwha Ocean and Yang Ming.

The new vessels will feature Hanwha Ocean's advanced high-manganese steel-based Type-B LNG fuel tanks. These tanks are designed to enhance safety and optimize cost efficiency, reflecting the company's commitment to innovation in shipbuilding technology.

This latest contract represents Yang Ming's second major order from Hanwha Ocean. The previous order, placed in September 2025, involved a 1.93 trillion-won deal for the construction of seven 15,880-TEU LNG dual-fuel container ships. The continued collaboration underscores the strong business relationship between the two companies.
