Goyang: Hanwha Aerospace Co. announced a strategic partnership with GE Aerospace Inc. to develop naval gas turbine engine packages in South Korea. This collaboration aims to enhance domestic production capabilities and reduce reliance on imports.

According to Yonhap News Agency, the partnership was solidified through a memorandum of understanding signed on Monday at the Seoul International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition 2025, taking place at KINTEX in Goyang. The agreement focuses on the joint local development of components and complete engine packages for the LM2500 and LM500 engines.

A naval engine package is a fully integrated module that includes a gas turbine engine and essential components, ready for direct ship installation. Currently, South Korea imports a significant portion of these components. The new partnership intends to shift production locally, potentially reducing costs and delivery times.

Hanwha Aerospace emphasized that this collaboration will not only boost local technological capabilities but also contribute to stabilizing the global maritime defense supply chain. The company aims to secure core technologies for naval engine packages, enhancing business competitiveness and establishing itself as a key player in global maritime security.
